Check Your SASSA Application Status
Once you have submitted a SASSA application - whether for the SRD R370 or for an older grant like Disability or Child Support - you will want to track its progress. This page explains how to do that for every grant type, what each application status means, and how long things actually take.
Check status for an SRD R370 application
SRD applications are tracked online or via USSD - there is no paper file. Use one of the following:
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status and enter your ID + registered cellphone number.
- Or dial *134*7737# on any cellphone (free).
- Or WhatsApp 082 046 8553.
Check status for older grant applications
Older grants (Older Persons, Disability, Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency, War Veterans, Grant-in-Aid) are processed at SASSA offices. To check application progress:
- Visit the SASSA office where you applied (bring your stamped acknowledgement slip and ID).
- Or call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 with your ID number ready.
- Or log in to services.sassa.gov.za for online tracking of approved grants.
What each application status means
Submitted / Received
SASSA has your application. No verification has started yet.
In Review / Pending
Verification is running. SASSA is checking your information against Home Affairs, SARS, UIF and bank databases.
Approved
Your application succeeded. For SRD, the R370 is processed this month. For other grants, your file moves to payment setup.
Declined
A check failed. The portal shows the reason. You can appeal within 90 days for SRD, or reapply with corrected documentation for other grants.
Action Required / Additional Documents
SASSA needs something from you - usually a banking detail or proof document. Respond within 21 days or the application is cancelled.
How long do SASSA applications take?
- SRD R370: 5-15 working days from submission to first status.
- Older Persons / Disability / Child Support: typically 21-90 days, depending on document verification.
- Foster Child / Care Dependency: longer (often 60-120 days) because medical or court documents may be needed.
- Appeals: 60-90 days for SRD; varies for older grants.
