Editorial Policy
Last updated: 24 March 2026
MySASSA exists to make SASSA grant information easier to find and understand. We take this responsibility seriously because the people who rely on our content are often in difficult financial situations. Providing wrong or outdated information could cause real harm. This policy explains how we work to prevent that.
Our Independence
MySASSA is not affiliated with SASSA, the Department of Social Development, or the South African government.
We are an independent informational website. We do not process grant applications, check your status on your behalf, collect personal information, or have access to any SASSA systems. When we direct you to check your status or submit an application, we always link to the official SASSA portal at srd.sassa.gov.za.
How We Research Content
Every piece of information on this site is drawn from official, publicly available sources. We do not rely on social media rumours, WhatsApp forwards, or unverified tips. Our primary sources include:
- Official SASSA announcements and media statements published on www.sassa.gov.za
- The South African Government Gazette, which publishes grant amount adjustments and regulatory changes
- Annual Budget Speeches by the Minister of Finance, which announce grant increases
- Parliamentary questions and committee reports related to social grants
- Regulations published by the Department of Social Development
- Court judgments that affect grant eligibility or administration (such as Constitutional Court rulings on the SRD grant)
How We Verify Facts
Before publishing any grant amount, eligibility requirement, payment date, or procedural information, we cross-reference it against at least two official sources. For example:
- Grant amounts are verified against both the Budget Speech and the subsequent Government Gazette that formally enacts the increase.
- Payment dates are confirmed using the official SASSA payment schedule released at the start of each year, and updated if SASSA issues any amendments.
- Eligibility criteria are checked against the Social Assistance Act and its regulations, not just SASSA media releases.
- When information has been announced but not yet gazetted, we clearly label it as provisional and explain what confirmation we are waiting for.
AI Disclosure
We use AI tools to assist with content creation, editing, and structuring our guides. All content produced with AI assistance is reviewed and verified by our team against official SASSA sources before publication. We never publish AI-generated content without human review and fact-checking against the official sources listed above.
AI helps us produce clear, well-structured guides more efficiently, but the factual accuracy of every claim depends on our verification process, not the AI model. If an AI tool generates something incorrect, our review process is designed to catch it before it reaches you.
How We Handle Corrections
Despite our best efforts, mistakes can happen. When we discover an error - or when a reader reports one - we follow this process:
- We verify whether the reported error is genuine by checking against official sources.
- If the error is confirmed, we correct the content as quickly as possible, usually within 24 hours.
- For significant corrections (such as a wrong grant amount or incorrect eligibility requirement), we update the "Last Updated" date on the page so readers can see the information has been recently reviewed.
- We do not silently change content. Major changes are noted where appropriate.
Content Update Schedule
SASSA information changes at predictable points during the year. Our update schedule is aligned to these events:
Annual Budget Speech (February)
Grant amounts are updated within 48 hours of the Budget Speech. All grant pages are reviewed and updated with the new amounts effective from April.
Payment Schedule Release (December/January)
When SASSA publishes the annual payment calendar, we update our payment dates page with all dates for the coming year.
Policy Changes (As They Occur)
When SASSA announces changes to eligibility rules, application processes, or other policies, we update affected guides within one week.
Regular Reviews (Monthly)
We conduct a monthly review of our most-visited pages to ensure information remains accurate and links are working.
Report an Error
If you spot an error on any page, please let us know through our contact page. Include the page URL and a description of what you believe is incorrect. If you can point us to an official source that contradicts our information, that helps us correct things faster.
