Check your SASSA SRD status now
The official SRD R370 status check tool is on the SASSA website.

A SASSA status check is how you find out where your grant application stands - whether it has been approved, declined, pended for verification, or paid for the current month. It is the single most common interaction beneficiaries have with the South African Social Security Agency. Every month, millions of South Africans log in to find out if their SRD R370 has been approved and when it will be paid.
The reason this matters: SRD eligibility is re-tested every month. Unlike older grants (Older Persons, Disability, Child Support) where you qualify once and keep getting paid, the SRD R370 grant runs fresh database checks against your income, UIF, bank statements and government payroll every single month. A status check is the only way to know whether this month's checks passed.
For the seven older grants (Older Persons, Disability, Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency, War Veterans, Grant-in-Aid), status checks are mostly about confirming your payment date, your payment method, and any annual review requirements.
Every way to check your SASSA status
1. Online (the official portal)
The most accurate and detailed method. For SRD R370, go to srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status. Enter your South African ID number and the cellphone number you used when you applied. You will receive an OTP to that phone to confirm the check. The result shows your status for each month from your application date up to the current month.
For older grants, log in to services.sassa.gov.za.
2. USSD - *134*7737#
Dial *134*7737# from any cellphone on any South African network. No airtime is needed. Follow the menu prompts to select the SRD grant, then enter your ID number. This works on any phone, including basic feature phones, and is the most reliable method when the SASSA website is down.
3. WhatsApp - 082 046 8553
Save the number 082 046 8553 and send a WhatsApp message saying "status" or "SRD status". A SASSA bot will walk you through the steps. Note: the WhatsApp service mostly provides FAQ-style information; for an actual status result, the online portal or USSD is more reliable.
4. Toll-free line - 0800 60 10 11
Call 0800 60 10 11. The call is free from all South African networks. Choose the SRD option from the IVR menu, then provide your ID number to a SASSA agent. Wait times can be long - early morning (8am-9am) tends to be the quietest.
5. In person at a SASSA office
Visit your nearest SASSA office with your green bar-coded ID document. An agent will check your status on the internal system. This is the slowest method but useful if your status has been stuck pending for months or if you need to update your records at the same time.

| Bank Details Pending | Approved but no payment method on file. | Submit banking details. |

When the SASSA website is down
The SASSA portal handles huge traffic spikes around payment week and on the first day of each month. If you cannot get a status result, try in this order:
- Wait 10 minutes and try again - load is often temporary.
- Try a different browser or your phone instead of a laptop.
- Dial *134*7737# - the USSD system uses different infrastructure.
- Try again very early (5am-7am) or late at night (after 9pm).
- Visit your local SASSA office as a last resort.
We track SASSA portal uptime on our live portal status page if you want to know whether the site is down for everyone.

Safety: avoid SASSA status check scams
The only official SASSA URL ends in .sassa.gov.za. Any other domain - even ones that look similar - is not SASSA. Common scams include fake portals that ask for your ID and banking PIN, SMS messages claiming your status changed with a link to click, and people offering to check your status for a fee. SASSA never asks for your PIN, never charges for status checks, and never asks for payment to release a grant.
